Trees are wonderful in the yard or on your property. They give you shade and produce oxygen for the air we breathe but there are times when you just need to trim them back a bit and make sure that they are not growing out of control. Pruning Your Trees
The first thing you need to understand is that a tree pruned correctly can actually be healthier than a tree that is just left to grow freely. If the tree is hitting the side a building, getting caught up in power lines, or growing into other trees, it can affect the trees healthy growth. Pruning off limbs that have been damaged by the weather or by growing up under something is better for the tree. There is a right way to remove limbs and if you are not familiar with how to do it or do not have the equipment to do it, you should consider hiring a tree service to remove the limbs for you.
Damaged Caused By Tree Limbs
One of the biggest problems with trees close to your home is that they can cause damage to the house itself. The limbs hitting the side of your home can damage the siding, limbs on the roof can tear off shingles as they move with the wind, and in a storm, the limbs can break off the tree, landing on the house and a large enough limb can cause structural damage to the house. If you are concerned that there are trees near your home that could be causing damage, have the trees evaluated by a tree service to determine if they should be removed or at least pruned back.
Bugs, Squirrels, and Other Pests
Something many people do not consider is that a tree hanging low over your home can be an invitation for a squirrel or ants to get into the building. In areas where bugs and insects in your home is a potential problem, a limb on the roof can act as a perfect road from the ground to the roof. And that squirrel making his home in the attic, he might very well have climbed that low hanging branch and found his way in after getting to the roof or eaves. The simplest solution is to cut those limbs back and keep them from being low enough over the roof for critters to use them as a superhighway.
